There is a special moment just before a new academic year begins. The rooms are still quiet, but new ideas are already in the air. Musicians are returning to Vienna, instruments are being unpacked, and the first conversations about new projects have begun.
For me, this is the perfect time to return to the radio.
On Sunday, 6 September 2026, Jürgen Drimal and I will host the first JAM MUSIC LAB Radio Sessions of the new academic year on Radio Superfly Vienna. The programme will be broadcast from 21:00 to 22:00.
Since we launched the programme, the radio studio has become another kind of classroom—but one without a fixed curriculum. It is a place where music leads the conversation.
The show brings together students, teachers, international guests and friends of JAM MUSIC LAB University. We listen to their music and talk about the ideas, decisions and experiences behind it. Jazz can meet hip-hop, composition can meet improvisation, and a conversation about a new recording can suddenly open a much larger discussion about music education or artistic life.
That is what I enjoy most about radio: it gives music time and space. A song is not simply announced and played. We can listen closely, ask questions and discover the story behind the sound.
The JAM MUSIC LAB Radio Sessions reflect the creative diversity of jazz and popular music in Vienna. They also allow us to share what is happening inside our musical community with listeners far beyond the university.
